The first time Gloria Estefan topped the Adult Contemporary chart happened as a member of Miami Sound Machine.  The ballad "Words Get in The Way" was a different sound for Estefan and MSM at the time, but provided the script to the formula that helped her become a darling of the format for the next decade to come.
