Jessica Simpson "Take My Breath Away"

You've finally seen it. Last week, the movie trailer for Top Gun: Maverick debuted even though the movie isn't scheduled to hit theaters until 2020. While the trailor featured some of the familiar faces and sounds as the original, it did not contain Kenny Loggins' "Highway to the Danger Zone" or Berlin's "Take My Breath Away" -- both songs were prominent in the original 1986 film. Did you forget Jessica Simpson also covered the ballad? She did so as an ode to her then-husband Nick Lachey in 2004.

Ashlee Simpson "Pieces of Me"

What we know about Ashlee Simpson:

  • Younger sister of Jessica Simpson
  • Had her own MTV series which was a spin-off from Nick and Jessica

Jessica Simpson & Nick Lachey - "Where You Are"

As the calendar flipped to the year 2000, Jessica Simpson's career was in full-fledged superstar mode.  The second day of January saw Jessica's first duet with Nick Lachey, "Where You Are", debut on the charts.  What was next for Jessica and Nick?  Plenty including a reality TV show that painted Jessica as the second coming of Chrissy Snow.

98 Degrees - "The Hardest Thing"

I used to buy all those "Now That's What I Call Music" CDs.  The first Now CD I purchased came after calling an 800-number from a late-night TV commercial, but I scored the other dozen or so discs from music stores and/or work.  You have to go all the way back to "Now That's What I Call Music Volume #3" to find "The Hardest Thing" from the Nick Lachey-fronted boy band 98 Degrees.
