Jimmy Harnen with Synch "Where Are You Now?"

Miley Cyrus, Justin Timberlake, and Christina Aguilera are all products of the Disney Channel's success.  The cable network also helped make Jimmy Harnen a star in 1989 when the Disney sitcom Liv and Maddie featured Jimmy Harnen's "Where Are You Now?".  Harnen originally recorded the song in 1986 when he was a member of the band Synch.  Where is Jimmy Harnen now?  He's the president of Republic Nashville -- a record company that boasts artists such as Florida Georgia Line.

Dolly Parton - "Jolene"

Some fun facts about Dolly Parton's signature tune "Jolene":

  • Released in 1973, the song details Dolly's fear that an attractive bank clerk was trying to woo away her husband
  • Much like Barry Manilow inspired a generation of girls named Mandy, Dolly did the same thing with "Jolene"
  • Miley Cyrus (who is Parton's goddaughter) is one of the many artists to remake the song
  • Dolly's original version was nominated for two Grammys in 1974, but she did not win either
  • "Jolene" earned Dolly a Grammy 44 years after its original release thanks to her backing up the group Pentatonix in a remake of the tune
  • Several artists penned songs in response to "Jolene" including Kirstie MacColl's "Caroline" and Jennifer Nettles' "That Girl"

Restless Heart - "I'll Still Be Loving You"

POP QUIZ:  What do Restless Heart and Miley Cyrus have in common?  Restless Heart's country-pop ballad "I'll Still Be Loving You" was the last country song to cross over to the Hot 100 until Billy Ray Cyrus did it in 1992 with "Achy Breaky Heart".  Restless Heart accomplished the feat in 1987.  Oh, and of course, Billy Ray is Miley's dad.  [Side note: this is post #900 on Growing Up Adult Contemporary!]
