Britney Spears "(You Drive Me) Crazy"

Anyone who's watched Britney Spears' Instagram story lately is probably hoping she's okay...

Cathy Dennis "Touch Me (All Night Long)"

Cathy Dennis arrived on the music scene in 1990 with hits like "Just Another Dream" (featuring a guy who sounds remarkably like Rick Astley) followed by the dance club hit "Touch Me (All Night Long)". Years later, Dennis moved into songwriting and is partially responsible for Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head" and Britney Spears' "Toxic". In 2015, her voice turned up in "Runaway (U & I)" for the EDM group Galantis.

Britney Spears "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman"

Sometimes a girl tries to make a statement, but no one wants to hear it. "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman" was Britney Spears' answer to being stuck in the awkward phase  between teenager and adulthood. The syrupy song fared well outside the US, but never caught on here. At one of her concerts, I'm guessing you'd rather hear her do "Toxic" or "Baby, One More Time", right?

Lauren Christy - "The Color of the Night"

One listen to Lauren Christy's "The Color of the Night" and you'll likely hear some similarities to Toni Braxton's "Unbreak My Heart".  The ballad only managed to top out at #24 on the Adult Contemporary Chart, but helped launch Christy's career in 1994. While Christy's own singing career never really blossomed, she went on to write and produce numerous hit songs and albums for other artists including Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Brown, and Avril Lavigne.  Most recently, she worked with Bebe Rexha and G-Eazy on "Me, Myself & I" in 2016.

Madonna - "Beautiful Stranger"

If it wasn't for that darn Britney Spears, Madonna's would have had the #1 song in 1999.  Britney's mega-breakout hit "Baby...One More Time" edged "Beautiful Stranger" out of the top spot.  Thankfully, Madonna and Britney would later kiss and make up at the MTV VMA's in 2003.

Christina Aguilera - "I Turn To You"

Remember back when people actually spent time discussing who was more talented: Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera?  I do.

Billy Joel - "Big Shot"

Lyrics to Billy Joel's "Big Shot' include the word bitchin' and no one seems to care.  On the other hand, Britney Spears sings "It's Britney, bitch" and the angry emails come pouring in.

The Bee Gee's - "Paying The Price of Love"

The Bee Gee's were a little ahead of the times when they released "Paying the Price of Love" in 1993 (that's right, re-read that sentence again).  With a drum beat much like Elton John's "The Simple Life" and a synthesizer sound that Britney Spears would later use "...Baby One More Time", the song plugged along.  Internationally, "Paying The Price of Love" was a hit, but domestically the only stations to touch The Bee Gee's were Adult Contemporary radio stations.  Unfortunately, the result was a song that never broke through--charting only as high as #74 on the Hot 100.
