R.E.M. "Losing My Religion"

R.E.M. churned out a hit alternative rock song in 1991 that featured a mandolin. The band's guitarist, Peter Buck, turned out a set of unforgettable chords on the mandolin while Michael Stipe sang lyrics to the song that resulted in the band's signature tune, "Losing My Religion". Once known as simply a college campus favorite, the album Out of Time and, specifically, "Losing My Religion" helped R.E.M. crossed over onto mainstream radio.

Jesus Jones "Right Here, Right Now"

No '90s playlist is complete without the Jesus Jones hit "Right Here, Right Now". You likely know the bulk of the lyrics to this catchy song and for good reason.  The song hit #1 on the Alternative Chart and went all the way to #2 on the Hot 100 in 1991.

New Radicals - "Someday We'll Know"

The New Radicals were red-hot in 1999 thanks to their breakout hit "You Get What You Give".  Their follow-up single, "Someday We'll Know", hit the radio that spring coupled with surprising news -- Gregg Alexander, the group's lead member, announced that he had achieved all his goals with New Radicals and the group would break up.  At the time, the alt-rock group was barely two years old.  Alexander bluntly said, "The fatigue of traveling and getting three hours' sleep in a different hotel every night to do boring 'hanging and schmoozing' with radio and retail people is definitely not for me."  Just like that, the band was never heard from again.
