Huey Lewis & The News "But It's Alright"

Just a year after charting "It's Alright", Huey Lewis & The News followed that up with "But It's Alright". Both songs came from their Four Chords and Several Years Ago album loaded with '50s and '60s R&B covers.

Huey Lewis & the News "Perfect World"

We are imperfect people living in an imperfect world. Looking on the bright side isn't always easy. We can blame social media or the man in the White House for feeling this way or we can implement some changes of our own. Someone passed this tip onto me, and I started incorporating it into my nightly ride-home-from-work ritual. Each night, I think of four things to be thankful. Maybe it's something simple (I got a seat on the train) or it involved a loved one (so-and-so's surgery went well). Whatever the things happen to be, own it and focus on the positives. Thanksgiving may be the one day a year we cook a turkey, but it shouldn't be the one day we give thanks (steps down from soap box)...

Huey Lewis & The News "Hip to Be Square"

Remember the time San Francisco 49er quarterback Joe Montana sang backup vocals on a song? It happened in 1986 when Montana and Ronnie Lott lent their voices to "Hip to Be Square" from Huey Lewis & The News.

Huey Lewis & The News "The Power of Love"

When Huey Lewis & The News released "The Power of Love" in 1985, Billboard Magazine boldly called the song "an out-of-the-box monster hit".

Huey Lewis and the News - "It's All Right"

Huey Lewis managed to chart two cover songs within a year of each other: "But It's Alright" and "It's All Right" -- is that right?

Huey Lewis - "Doing It All For My Baby"

My brother was such a fan of Huey Lewis that he paid to have his Cabbage Patch Kid's middle name changed to include "Huey".  Yep, he had a Cabbage Patch Kid.

Huey Lewis & The News - "If This Is It"

It's difficult not to like Huey Lewis & The News.  Their catalog of music spans my lifetime and even if some of their songs completely get under my skin, they go ahead and totally redeem themselves with do-wop ballads such as "If This Is It".

Huey Lewis & The News - "Stuck With You"

It was a cold December evening on State Street in Chicago.  From a distance, the voice of Huey Lewis could be heard singing one of his signature 80s tunes.  At first glance, it appeared that the music was coming from a trolley filled with a well-dressed gaggle of young ladies on a Bachelorette party.  But, no.  As Huey's voice grew closer, I noticed that the music was coming from the boombox of a rotund African-American gentleman.  He wore a great big smile as he walked along the busy sidewalk blasting Huey from his antiquated music box.  Moments like this remind me why I love this city.

Huey Lewis & The News - "Walking On A Thin Line"

When the world lost Casey Kasem in 2014, I thought back to all the Sunday mornings my mom would play The Weekly Top 40.  We'd listen each week because we had to know if there was a new #1 song (it all sounds kinda pathetic by today's standards, but that's what you did in 1984).  My earliest recollections of Huey Lewis & The News was the song "Walking on A Thin Line".  I taped the song off the radio and I remember Casey's booming voice over the end of the song saying: "Moving up two notches is Huey Lewis & The News with 'Walking On A Thin Line'...".  Even today, I can't hear the song without hearing Casey's voice.

Huey Lewis & Gwyneth Paltrow - "Cruisin"

Give Huey Lewis credit.  For an artist whose career peaked in 1984, Huey hasn't slowed down.  He's well into his 60s and continues to tour, perform, and stay relevant in an era when many other '80s bands are now relegated to playing small street fests and county fairs.  Lewis opened the 21st Century starring and performing in the film Duets.  He found an unlikely singing partner in Gwyneth Paltrow and managed to score a #1 Adult Contemporary hit with a remake of Smokey Robinson's "Cruisin".  Since then, Huey has turned up on Just Shoot Me, One Tree Hill, and The King of Queens.
