While paging through some random magazine in 1998, I remember seeing a list of the "Ultimate Workout Songs". According to the article, these tunes were audio caffeine guaranteed to boost your workouts. Thinking back on that list today, I don't recall any songs from said list except for one: "Money's Too Tight (to Mention)" by Simply Red. When you think about bands known for their upbeat sound, rarely does Simply Red make said list. While I had never heard of the song, I found it on a CD of mine and listened. Granted I have some strange songs on my "RUN" playlist, but "Money's Too Tight (to Mention)" isn't one of them.
Phil Collins, Elton John, and Gloria Estefan dominated Adult Contemporary radio back in the 1980s and '90s, yet have disappeared from modern radio. Seemingly, the only time you ever hear them is at the grocery store or your local CVS. This blog remembers the music, the stories and the quirky characters from my days working in Adult Contemporary radio.
