Phil Collins, Elton John, and Gloria Estefan dominated Adult Contemporary radio back in the 1980s and '90s, yet have disappeared from modern radio. Seemingly, the only time you ever hear them is at the grocery store or your local CVS. This blog remembers the music, the stories and the quirky characters from my days working in Adult Contemporary radio.

Marc Cohn - "Walking in Memphis"
Marc Cohn has a fascinating and terrifying biography. His smash hit "Walking in Memphis" put him on the map in 1991. The song found its way onto Top 40, Adult Contemporary, and even Country music stations. Contrary to what many thought at the time "Walking in Memphis" was not a tribute to Elvis, but rather a about a woman named Muriel who helped change Cohn's life, both personally and professionally. Cohn could not sustain the success of "Walking in Memphis" and largely went unnoticed during the remainder of the '90s. After being introduced to ABC News journalist Elizabeth Vargas by Andre Agassi, the Vargas and Cohn married in 1999. In 2005 while on tour with Suzanne Vega, Cohn was the victim of an attempted carjacking and was shot in the head. Miraculously, the bullet never penetrated Cohn's skull, and he made a full recovery with no damage his voice.
