Phil Collins, Elton John, and Gloria Estefan dominated Adult Contemporary radio back in the 1980s and '90s, yet have disappeared from modern radio. Seemingly, the only time you ever hear them is at the grocery store or your local CVS. This blog remembers the music, the stories and the quirky characters from my days working in Adult Contemporary radio.

U2 "One"
DID YOU KNOW?
The song "One" isn't just one of the band's biggest hits -- it actually helped save U2 from breaking up. Tensions were high in the fall of 1990 as the band worked in the studio recording tracks for their upcoming Achtung Baby album. Some members of U2 weren't happy with the sound and direction the band was headed leading some to believe the band was about to call it quits. While riffing on a bridge for a song called "Sick Puppy" (that later became "Mysterious Ways"), the group discovered a piece of music that eventually morphed into what would become "One". Bono claims the song came together in about 15 minutes and everyone in the room knew they stumbled upon something great. "One" didn't just save the band--proceeds from the single went to fund AIDS research organizations across the globe.
