Matchbox 20's successful single "3 A.M." is about something far deeper than the time of the day. The song chronicles the cancer battle of the mother of lead singer Rob Thomas. Thomas originally wrote the song while with the group Tabitha's Secret.

"Going through this with Noah, I didn’t question who I was, I just questioned everything else. Why are we here? Is this all there is? Because if this is all there is, there has to be something bigger. It hurts me, and it hurts to talk about Noah because it’s not my story to tell, it’s his. But my whole being’s changed. My perception of life. I don’t know if I can even get through this conversation without crying. And I’ve never lost control of my emotions in public."
