Christopher Cross "A Chance for Heaven"

Nothing fires up Olympic athletes like the music of Christopher Cross. No? For some reason the US Olympic Swim Team used the soft rock crooner's "A Chance for Heaven" as their theme during the 1984 Summer Games. Compare this motivational song to Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" and now we know why Rocky beat Russian boxer Ivan Drago.

*N-Sync "(God Must've Spent) A Little More Time on You"

If you went out and bought the CD single to *N-Sync's "(God Must've Spent) A Little More Time on You", you also received quite a smooth little treat: the single's B-side was a live cover of "Sailing" from Christopher Cross.

Christopher Cross - "Never Be The Same"

"I will never be the same without you here.  I live alone and hide myself behind my tears."

All lyrics are woven from emotions...typically love and loss.  As a performer, is it therapeutic to get on stage at city after city and rehash those memories or do you just go through the motions forgetting about the lass who broke your heart in 1979?  (Christopher Cross, this question is for you.)

Gloria Loring & Carl Anderson - "Friends & Lovers"

There was a time when many women stayed home during the day and watched soap operas on television.  Back then, you watched television shows live--not via a DVR (although the VCR helped changed that by the mid-1980s).  Because of that, you wouldn't dare call someone at 2pm for fear of interrupting them while watching General Hospital.  Each soap had their own hero and villain, but also the resident power couple that the show's legions of fans aspired to be.  While General Hospital's resident power couple, Luke & Laura, had their own theme song ("Think of Laura" by Christopher Cross), Days of Our Lives' super couple Shane & Kimberly had "Friends & Lovers" as their anthem.

Christopher Cross - "Think of Laura"

Listen closely and you can almost hear the dentist's drill coming from the paper thin walls in the next room.

Christopher Cross - "Sailing"

"Sailing" by Christopher Cross helped spur sales of Bartles & Jaymes Wine Coolers by 74 percent.  (Note: I made up that statistic)

Christopher Cross - "Ride Like The Wind"

I missed Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy performing "Ride Like the Wind" with Christopher Cross on Jimmy Kimmel Live.  This song exemplified 1980's Adult Contemporary music.  Thanks for keeping it alive, Ron!

Christopher Cross - "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)"

Let's put an end to a fight that started well before Y2K: Newman's Newmannnium Party trumped Kramer's Millennium Party because Newman had already booked Christopher Cross (and the revolving restaurant that overlooks Times Square).
