Jennifer Lopez "Alive"

A few months before Celine Dion tore up the Adult Contemporary Charts with "I'm Alive" we found Jennifer Lopez and her ballad "Alive". Just like Dion's "I'm Alive", J-Lo's tune also appeared on a movie soundtrack: Stuart Little 2 for Celine while J-Lo's "Alive" appeared on the soundtrack to Enough. Though not as big of a bomb as her next film, Gigli, Enough also crashed at the box office and the stresses of juggling her busy singing and acting career eventually caused J-Lo to suffer a nervous breakdown.

Carly Simon "You Belong to Me"

The other song from Carly Simon whose title starts with "You" is the 1978 hit "You Belong to Me". Throughout the years, numerous other artists remade the soft rock gem including Jennifer Lopez, Anita Baker and Chaka Khan. Chaka enlisted help from the smoothest voice in the land: Michael McDonald to sing the tune with her in her 2007 album Funk This. McDonald also charted a live version of the song while with the Doobie Brothers in 1983.

Cher "Strong Enough"

Radio at the end of the 1990s featured hip-hop (Brandy, TLC, Destiny's Child), the "Latin Explosion" (Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Santana), and Cher. The ageless wonder returned to Top 40 radio with her mega-hit "Believe". That song ended 1999 as the #1 single of the year. Lost in the shuffle was her follow-up hit to "Believe" called "Strong Enough". Aside from a home on the radio, dance clubs couldn't get enough of it. With its disco-dance flavor, "Strong Enough" played like an updated version of Donna Summer's "MacArthur Park".

Enrique Iglesias - "Escape"

Nowadays Enrique has been busy teaming up with Pitbull, but back in 2001 he was still riding the "Latin Explosion" wave.  With the likes of Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, and Ricky Martin, Enrique (and his mole--RIP) made a name for himself launching several hit songs including "Escape".

The Script - "Breakeven"

Sometimes the song itself is good, but it's a memory attached that really strikes a chord.  America cried along with the story of a Chicagoan named Chris Medina.  Medina performed The Script's "Breakeven" during his American Idol audition in 2011 and managed to put tears in the eyes of judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez.  Two years prior, Medina proposed to his girlfriend, Juliana Ramos, who happily said "yes".  Ramos was later seriously injured in a car accident just two months before their wedding date.  Medina put the wedding on hold to tend to his fiancee who was now wheelchair bound.  "What kind of guy would I be if I walked out when she needed me most," Medina said at the time.  (Every story has the "other" side to it, but I won't spoil this story with some not-so-flattering details of what else happened to the couple.)

Selena - "I Could Fall in Love"

Many of us learned about Latin-pop sensation Selena from the movie Selena or from hearing the song "I Could Fall in Love". The story of Selena as a budding singer who was murdered by the former head of her fan club reads more like a story pulled from the script from a Lifetime movie, yet it was her unfortunate reality. "I Could Fall in Love" was one of the big Adult Contemporary songs from the summer of 1995. Ironically, the movie introduced most of the world to Jennifer Lopez (who played Selena in the movie).
