Also known as the French harp or mouth organ, Blessid Union of Souls featured what we call the harmonica in their 1996 song "Oh Virginia".

Is it possible to miss someone before they're gone? According to the lyrics to "Let Me Be the One", the answer is yes. In the catchy tune, lead singer Eliot Sloan also vows "to be a real good man".

Blessid Union of Souls - "Hey Leonardo (She Likes Me For Me)"

"Hey Leonardo" burst out of radios at the end of 1999 and proved to be one of Blessid Union of Soul's signature tunes.  The song (and title) makes reference to Leonardo DiCaprio whose popularity was at an all-time high (thanks to the blockbuster Titanic) when the group wrote the tune.

Blessid Union of Souls - "All Along"

The year was 1996.  The class was S223: Social Psychology at Indiana University. My class was divided into groups in which we were assigned a project that involved coming up with popular love songs (tough class, I know). This guy in the group confidently says, "'All Along' from Blessid Union of Souls." The rest of the group looked at him as if to say, "What the hell song is that?". I don't know why, but I'll never unlink that memory from this minor hit.

Blessid Union of Souls - "I Believe"

It's a tale of a black man who loves a white girl named Lisa, but Lisa's father threatens to cut off her college tuition if she continues dating the guy.  Sadly, it's a theme that ran rampant for decades...even in 1995, the year "I Believe" charted.
