Backstreet Boys "I Want It That Way"

You can tour all of Europe without paying lots of money if you take a cue from a recent college grad named Anthony. Instead of booking hotels throughout eight countries and 22 cities, Anthony "Tinder Surfed". What is "Tinder Surfing"? Instead of using Tinder to look for someone to sleep with, Andrew looked for a place to sleep. He'd then link to his YouTube page where videos told the ladies what he was doing and even then people opened their homes to him. Anthony not only found places to stay, but he even hooked up with a some of the ladies. Not everyone accepted Anthony's overtures -- he got told "Sounds fun, but that's not for me". It certainly helped that he's an attractive and multilingual person, but wouldn't you feel like the whole time he stayed with you that he was on his phone looking for his next place to stay?

Backstreet Boys "Incomplete"

The Backstreet Boys are the best-selling boy band in the world and the only boy band to top the US Charts three decades in a row. Their 2019 album DNA provided the band with another #1 album. Despite growing up as boys in the mid-'90s to family men in the 2000s, the Backstreet Boys refused to change the name of their band to simply "Backstreet".

Backstreet Boys "I'll Never Break Your Heart"

Originally released in 1995, the Backstreet Boys finally found success with their ballad "I'll Never Break Your Heart" in 1998. The delay actually is fitting given that it took the boys two weeks to record the song because Brian Littrell and A.J. McLean both had colds.

Backstreet Boys "The One"

Usually a record company decides which singles from a band's album gets released to radio stations. In the case of the Backstreet Boys, they left that decision up to let the fans to choose courtesy of MTV's TRL. Four of the band's members voted for the song "Don't Want You Back", but Nick Carter had other plans. He called into TRL and voted for "The One". His legions of fans followed and up-voted "The One" -- making it the group's final single from their Millennium album.

Backstreet Boys "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)"

Some fun facts about the Backstreet Boys first big hit:

• The song went to #2 on the Hot 100 in 1997 (blocked by "Mo Money, Mo Problems" from The Notorious B.I.G. and later Mariah Carey's "Honey") 
• The song also went to #2 on the Adult Contemporary Chart
• BSB record company originally wanted to release "You Want it to Be Good Girl (Get Yourself A Bad Boy)" instead of "Quit Playing Games", but the boys argued against it saying that particular song was their worst
• The original version of the song was recorded in 1995 and only featured Brian Littrell singing both verses -- Nick Carter was later added
• An Italian version of the song was also recorded but only featured Kevin Richardson and Howie Dorough 

Backstreet Boys "All I Have to Give"

My first *real* job post-college was Classified Sales Manager for a magazine in Chicago.  One of the biggest transitions for me was shedding my night-owl lifestyle and setting my alarm for 6:00 A.M. and then driving 25 minutes to wait to board a train that took another 45 minutes to get to downtown Chicago.  I'm not ashamed to admit I used to crank "All I Have to Give" during my ride to and from the train station.

Backstreet Boys - "Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely"

The last day of the year 1999 was riddled with Y2K fear.  Airplanes would fall out of the sky.  Our computers would all crash.  And the banks would surely all fall victim to the Y2K bug leaving us penniless (unless you withdrew a huge sum of cash and stashed it in your Y2K Shelter--also known as a "basement").  To restore order, the United States government deployed The Backstreet Boys.  Thankfully, their lush soothing voices in "Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely" extinguished all the fears and the panic that weighed heavily on the shoulders of all Americans.  Suddenly, all was right with the world.

Boyzone - "No Matter What"

The boy band craze was in full swing during the final year of the 1990s.  The Backstreet Boys, 'N-Sync, and even O-Town dominated the "boy band" bracket of Top 40 radio,  Meanwhile an Irish boy band called Boyzone also found their five minutes of fame.  Their ballad "No Matter What" was a tepid Adult Contemporary hit while finding huge international success.

Backstreet Boys - "Drowning"

You could probably rattle off a half-dozen songs by The Backstreet Boys before someone reminds you of their 2001 ballad "Drowning".  The somber tune was released in October 2001, post 9-11 attacks, and struck a chord with radio stations struggling to fit the mood of the country at the time.
