Meat Loaf "Not A Dry Eye in the House"

My college girlfriend looked through my sock drawer one night and curiously asked why I had a handkerchief with the words "Not A Dry Eye in the House" printed on it.

The short answer: I got it from work.

The long answer: I had an internship where I assisted the radio station's midday DJ. This DJ, who became my mentor and helped me start in the business, doubled as the station's Music Director--meaning she was in charge of creating daily music logs, among other things. Record labels constantly contacted her in hopes of getting an "add". An "add" is when a radio station adds a new song to their playlist. Record companies would sometimes attempt to sweeten the pot by sending chotskies to get that elusive add. In the case of Meat Loaf's "Not A Dry Eye in the House", the record company created handkerchiefs with the song's title printed on them. The song never went on to be a US hit, but I held onto that handkerchief for years. I never used it, but was just excited to have something from my unpaid internship.

Celine Dion "It's All Coming Back to Me Now"

If Celine Dion's "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" sounds like a song from Meat Loaf, that's because it is/was. Meat Loaf wanted to record the song for years, but the composer felt it would better be done by a woman. Enter Celine Dion. Her explosive rendition of the power ballad on her 1996 album Falling Into You topped the charts across the globe. A decade later, Meat Loaf finally saw his wish come true -- he recorded his own version of the song that, unlike Dion, turned the song into a duet with Marion Raven.

Meat Loaf "I'd Lie for You (And That's The Truth)"

The video to "I'd Lie for You (And That's The Truth)" picked up where "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That") left off.  The song featured Meat Loaf on lead vocals with Patti Russo -- unlike "I'd Do Anything For Love" which featured Lorraine Crosby.

Meat Loaf - "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad"

Meat Loaf stopped by the radio station sometime in 2008.  Typically when celebs and musicians stop by, we ask them to cut "liners" for the radio station.  A liner is a testimonial...for example, "Hey, this is Meat Loaf.  When I'm in Chicago, I always wake up to Eric & Kathy."  Unfortunately, whoever typed the liners for Meat Loaf mistakenly typed it as "Meatloaf".  He rightfully schooled us on the correct spelling of his name and reminded everyone in the room that he wasn't a loaf of meat.

Meat Loaf - "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)"

Meat Loaf would do anything for love...but he won't do that.  It was the 1990s version of "Who Shot J.R." and the 2000s version of the final scene of "Lost in Translation".  Use your imagination and fill in the blank...there is no wrong answer.
