Foreigner "Until the End of Time"

Daytime soap operas helped sell a lot of music. In the case of Foreigner, All My Children tried but couldn't make "Until the End of Time" a big hit. The Foreigner ballad found its way into a 1995 All My Children episode that featured some steamy on-screen heat between Haley Vaughan and Mateo Santos (played by Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos). The duo eventually married in real life whereas "Until the End of Time" was the only hit (albeit a minor one) from Foreigner's disappointing Mr. Moonlight album.

Chris Isaak - "Wicked Game"

Chris Isaak packed yearning, angst, and conflict -- not to mention an incredible bassline -- into "Wicked Game".  I remember first hearing this song in commercials for the soap opera Days of Our Lives in the mid-90s, but the tune was originally released in 1990.  Isaak can credit David Lynch, who used it in his film Wild at Heart, for helping launch the song on the radio and ultimately landing in the Top 10 in 1991.  Wild at Heart never went on to greatness, but the other project he was working on at the time did -- that project was Twin Peaks.

Gloria Loring & Carl Anderson - "Friends & Lovers"

There was a time when many women stayed home during the day and watched soap operas on television.  Back then, you watched television shows live--not via a DVR (although the VCR helped changed that by the mid-1980s).  Because of that, you wouldn't dare call someone at 2pm for fear of interrupting them while watching General Hospital.  Each soap had their own hero and villain, but also the resident power couple that the show's legions of fans aspired to be.  While General Hospital's resident power couple, Luke & Laura, had their own theme song ("Think of Laura" by Christopher Cross), Days of Our Lives' super couple Shane & Kimberly had "Friends & Lovers" as their anthem.
