Guns 'N Roses "November Rain"

With today being the Winter Solstice -- the shortest day of the year, we highlight a song that is anything but short (for that, we'd award Del Amitri's "Roll to Me" which clocks in at just about two minutes). At nearly nine minutes in length, "November Rain" is the longest song to ever chart in the Top 10 of the Hot 100. Guns 'N Roses band mate Slash jokingly refers to the song as "the Layla song" (the Eric Clapton tune clocks in at just seven minutes and eight seconds). During the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), the band performed the song in its entirety along with Elton John on piano.

Del Amitri - "Roll to Me"

While working as a Board Operator during the late-1990s, I always kept a list of "fill songs"...these were songs that were usually short in length from bands that usually didn't have any other hits.  I would play them during hours in which I was "short on music"--meaning that after all the scheduled songs and commercials would air, there would still be time before the next hour.  One such fill song was "Roll to Me" by Del Amitri.  This quirky little song clocked in right around two minutes and became my ultimate go-to fill song.

Del Amitri - "Always The Last to Know"

Credit with Del Amitri for claiming that "Roll to Me" wasn't their best song--even if it was their most successful commercial hit.  "Always The Last to Know" was the other hit from Del Amitri.  It peaked at #30 on the Hot 100 in 1992.
