Pink "Who Knew"

Credit Pink for ripping Kanye West a new one during his infamous MTV Video Music Awards spectacle in 2009. I know, it's hard to believe it's been a decade since a drunken Kanye stole Taylor Swift's moment. Kanye allegedly carried a bottle of Hennessey on the red carpet and that didn't do him any favors a few hours later when Taylor won "Best Female Video". Kanye charged the stage, stole Taylor's moment and the audience gasped. Swift cried, Beyonce cried, Kanye was ejected from the awards show, and eventually the world moved on...but not before a visibly angry Pink got in Kanye's face and shared a few choice words. Later that evening, Pink tweeted out that "Kanye is the biggest piece of shit on earth." Have a great day.

Spin Doctors "Two Princes"

Could the Spin Doctors help enhance the flavor of your food? Oxford University researchers believe so. Their research claims Chinese food tastes better with pop music -- specifically Taylor Swift's "Blank Space". But wait, there's more! Sushi goes best with Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World". Can music make your Thai taste better? You better believe it, buster! Add some Buble...specifically Michael Buble. These fine researchers also determined the taste of Mexican food was eight times better while listening to the Spin Doctors. Yes, the Spin Doctors! Now, that's research money well spent...

Taylor Swift "Teardrops on My Guitar"

A close examination of this photo shows Taylor Swift and her doppelganger. Meet Julie Condra, a model and actress, who could be Taylor Swift's body double. Fans of the cult-'90s series Eerie, Indiana may recognize Condra who left The Wonder Years in 1991to join the short-lived television show. Credit to a California country radio station with a terrible name (Froggy 92.9) for posting the side-by-side picture of Swift and Condra from her role as Madeline Adams on The Wonder Years.

Paula Cole "Me"

Twenty-one years before Taylor Swift, Paula Cole released the ballad "Me". MTV and VH1 gave Paula's "Me" a bit of exposure, but nothing like what Taylor Swift got from her April 26th release of "Me!".

Kim Carnes "Bette Davis Eyes"

The biggest hit from 1981 was a tune all about Bette Davis -- well, her eyes.  Bette Davis wrote letters to Kim Carnes and even sent her roses after "Bette Davis Eyes" became a hit.  Davis credited the song for making her name relevant to a new generation -- she claimed her grandson even looked at her in a whole new light.  Credit Taylor Swift for continuing to introduce another generation to Bette (and the tune itself).  She covered the song in 2011 during her Speak Now World Tour.

Kenny Rogers - "Lady"

Did you know this about Kenny Rogers' hit song "Lady"?

  • The tune was written by Lionel Ritchie
  • While it was a country song, it sat atop the Adult Contemporary Chart for three weeks
  • It somehow charted at #42 on the Top Black Singles Chart
  • Yes, there was something known as the "Top Black Singles Chart" in 1980 (!)
  • It was the last country song to top the Hot 100 Chart until Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" in 2012
  • My brother performed this song at a karaoke bar in Epcot Center during a particular hot summer day in August 1990

James Ingram - "Just Once"

These days, album titles no longer seem to matter (unless you're Taylor Swift or Adele).  Back in 1981, James Ingram released The Dude--an R&B album that contained the ballad "Just Once".

Shinedown - "Second Chance"

When Casey Kasem stepped down from his countdown show in 2009, his final #1 songs were Taylor Swift's "Love Story" (on the Adult Contemporary version of his countdown) and "Second Chance" from Shinedown (on the Hot Adult Contemporary version of his countdown).  Pop music much different then as compared to Casey's first #1 song: "Mama Told Me Not to Come" by Three Dog Night.  Casey ended his final show with his familiar message: "Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars."
