James Ingram "How Do You Keep the Music Playing?"

"How Do You Keep the Music Playing?" came from the soundtrack to Best Friends -- a Burt Reynolds and Goldie Hawn rom-com from 1982. The film also co-starred Audra Lindley fresh off her four-year run as Mrs. Roper on Three's Company and later The Ropers.

Patti LaBelle & Bill Champlin "The Last Unbroken Heart"

Miami Vice only aired for five seasons, yet the crime drama spawned three separate soundtracks of music. Unlike most television shows that aired songs made for the program, Miami Vice paid nearly $10,000 to use popular music within the show. Miami Vice II contained the Patti LaBelle & Bill Champlin ballad "The Last Unbroken Heart" in 1987. 

Cliff Richard "A Little in Love"

Originally billed as a "rebellious" rock 'n roller in the late-'50s, U.K. singer Harry Rodger Webb later changed his name to Cliff Richard to match his new image in 1980. His catchy "A Little in Love" charted a year after his popular duet "Suddenly" with Olivia Newton-John. Unlike the UK where his music is beloved, he has only found moderate success in the US. One could poorly joke that the US is just a little in love with his music...

Jim Brickman "The Love of My Life"

That's the voice of Christian artist Michael W. Smith in Jim Brickman's "The Love of My Life". Up until this ballad, Brickman had typically teamed up with female vocalists (Anne Cochrane, Martina McBride). The song that sounds like it was pulled from a wedding reception was a Top 10 hit on the Adult Contemporary Chart in 1999.

Aaron Neville f/ Linda Ronstadt "Close Your Eyes"

Originally a hit in 1955, Aaron Neville and his singing buddy Linda Ronstadt re-recorded The Five Keys signature tune in 1992. While not a hit on the radio, soft rock radio stations give it some love.

Neil Diamond & Kim Carnes "Hooked on the Memory of You"

The golden rule among entertainers: make them love or hate you. Being in the middle makes you forgettable. Ever notice that we tend to look back on relationships using those same hot or cold terms? Sometimes history has a way of erasing the pain and ugliness of failed relationships.

Julio Iglesias & Stevie Wonder "My Love"

A handful of celebrities appeared on The Golden Girls as themselves. Notably, Burt Reynolds appeared as himself as did singer Julio Iglesias. About a year after charting the duet "My Love" with Stevie Wonder, Julio played himself in the episode Valentines Day. Throughout that particular show, Sophia (Estelle Getty) claimed to have a date for the infamous Hallmark holiday while the rest of the girls sat around the kitchen table sharing exploits from past Valentine's Days. Finally, at the end of the episode, Sophia's date entered and he turned out to be Iglesias.

Bryan Adams & Barbara Streisand "I Finally Found Someone"

Largely absent on Adult Contemporary radio during in the '90s, Barbara Streisand elbowed her way back thanks to her duet with Bryan Adams. The pair teamed up for the sleepy ballad "I Finally Found Someone" on The Mirror Has Two Faces Soundtrack. While not exactly a toe-tapper, the tune hit #2 on the Adult Contemporary Charts and #8 on the Hot 100 Chart.

Patti LaBelle & Michael McDonald "On My Own"

"On My Own" provides another example of a duet performed by two artists who were not in the same room together. Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald separately recorded their tracks for the chart-topping duet and the accompanying music video. These actions appear justified given the title of the song is "On My Own"...

Michelle Branch "All You Wanted"

Sometimes forgotten in the madness of late-2001 is singer Michelle Branch. That year she turned in one of her best efforts with "All You Wanted". The angst-ridden tune packed with a sound similar to one of her idols, Alanis Morrisette, soared to #6 on the Hot 100 (#30 on Adult Contemporary Chart). The song became her biggest solo hit. A year prior, she was opening for Hanson and, in the years following, Branch would strike gold in duets with the legendary Carlos Santana ("The Game of Love" and "I'm Feeling You"). Aside from that, she turned up on television shows such as Charmed and Buffy the Vampire Slayer before seguing into country music in a band called The Wreckers before returning to her pop-rock roots in the 2010s. Sometimes the only people who truly get you are those who do what you do and Branch did just that. She found her soulmate in fellow musician Patrick Carney of The Black Keys and the two later married.

Kenny Rogers & Gladys Knight "If I Knew Then What I Know Now"

While the halftime show gets all the attention tonight, don't forget about the voice behind our National Anthem. You may remember Whitney Houston turned her rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" at the 1991 Superbowl into a #1 song on the radio at a time when the world waged war in the Persian Gulf. Tonight, Gladys Knight takes her turn at Superbowl LIII.

Jennifer Rush w/ Elton John "Flames of Paradise"

With a music video that took its cue from A-Ha's "Take on Me", Jennifer Rush's uptempo "Flames of Paradise" featured Elton John in both real and animated form. You can close your eyes and picture the tune used at the end of an Eddie Murphy film. Critics predicted the duet would hit #1, but instead it flamed out. Rush's duet peaked at #36 on the Top 40 Chart in the US (#32 on the Adult Contemporary Chart).

Dionne Warwick & Jeffrey Osborne "Love Power"

If the Lifetime/Netflix thriller You premiered in 1987, you could add "Love Power" to the show's soundtrack. The Dionne Warwick and Jeffrey Osborne duet touches on two lovers who never quite get over one another -- even a psychic in Los Angeles said so! In the twisted drama You, Penn Badgley plays the lead character Joe Goldberg who falls in love with Beck, a customer he meets at his bookstore. Joe ultimately stalks Beck by using social media to learn everything he can about her, her family and friends. Joe does any and everything (including masturbating in the bushes and committing multiple murders) to make Beck all his (insert diabolical laugh). Shocked at the amount of fans who fell for Joe, the real-life Badgley took to Twitter to remind these troubled souls that Joe is, um, a killer. Love Power: it rules us and fools us.

Whitney Houston & Enrique Iglesias "Could I Have This Kiss Forever?"

"Could I Have This Kiss Forever?" won an award from the publication Idolator for being the #1 song from Whitney Houston that radio forgot. While that award title might elicit a head scratch, the sultry ballad featured Enrique Iglesias and appeared on radio stations in late-2000 before apparently falling off the map. If you're curious, other songs that made the list include "Million Dollar Bill" and "My Love Is Your Love".

Samantha Sang "Emotion"

Her first name might not be Samantha (it's Cheryl), but her last name is definitely Sang. After beginning her career as Cheryl Gray, the Australian changed her name to Samantha Sang signing on with Barry Gibb's manager. Gibb was such a fan of hers that he even sang backup vocals on "Emotion". The tune is Sang's biggest hit to-date. Destiny's Child covered the song in 2001--leading some Adult Contemporary radio stations to spin the tune again.

Celine Dion & Clive Griffin "When I Fall in Love"

This July marks the 25th anniversary of the romantic comedy "Sleepless in Seattle" that centers on a boy who urges his widowed father to phone into a local radio show to talk about how much he misses his wife. The movie's soundtrack featured an updated version of the ballad "When I Fall in Love". Originally, Celine Dion was to sing alongside Stevie Wonder in the song--but the role later went to British pop singer Clive Griffin.

Al Jarreau & Melissa Manchester "The Music of Goodbye"

Often during our journey in the world we ask God or the universe to send us a sign. This sign is usually in response to something weighing on our hearts. More times than not, we already know the answer -- yet we desire affirmation to justify the doubts littering our head. A friend of mine who lived in New York once dated someone who lived in Los Angeles. As their relationship progressed, she planned to quit her teaching job in Los Angeles and move in with my friend in New York. This decision weighed heavily on my friend because he believed he shouldn't make her sacrifice her career and living situation without the promise of a future (marriage). So my friend dropped $10,000 on an engagement ring. A few weeks later, I flew to New York to meet her at his request. My three-day visit was short in length, but long on drama. There were fights, tears and even threats to not board the plane. After I returned to Chicago, my friend called me and asked the dreaded question: "So, what do you think of her?". Do I tell him what he wants to hear or reveal the truth in my heart? I told him I believed his heart was in the right place, but the two of them needed lots of work and/or counseling before they should consider marriage. At first, he didn't want to hear this but ultimately I think he heard his own trepidation screaming out from the depths of his mind. Within a few months, the two split up...but the story didn't end there.

My friend couldn't stand the loneliness and tried to mediate the tug-of-war in his brain on whether or not he made a mistake. He claimed to constantly see signs that he should reach out to her. One such sign was a billboard for a furniture store that contained her name. With each frantic phone call to me pleading for permission to call her, I tried to convince him the signs were merely that....advertising signs that dotted the highway and not an excuse to pick at a scab. If anything, he chose not to notice the abundance of signs indicating a failed relationship. While he seemed to take my advice, he later admitted to taking numerous red eye flights to see her in Los Angeles. He knew their relationship was toxic, but for whatever reason...couldn't stop. As with my own personal experiences, I figured the only way he could move forward was if (and when) he met someone else.

Finally, that someone else entered his life and he let go of the past. He even pawned the former engagement ring and used that money to take a vacation and, later, to move his life out of New York. Within a year, my friend and his new girlfriend moved in together and things seemed to be falling into place. No matter what became of this relationship, I labeled it a success because it meant the old toxic relationship was finally over.

I wish I could tell you that this story has a "happily ever after" ending, but the truth is the toxic relationship reared its ugly head in the worst possible way and changed the lives of all involved. After hitting rock-bottom, my friend eventually dusted himself off and, after several years, found happiness with a different girl. The two married and live happily on a tropical island far away from Los Angeles...

Luther Vandross & Mariah Carey "Endless Love"

Thirteen years after Lionel Richie and Diana Ross teamed up for the wildly popular ballad "Endless Love", Luther Vandross and Mariah Carey did the same. The love song came from Vandross' Songs album which contained covers of vintage R&B tunes.

Bob Seger & Martina McBride "Chances Are"

Included on the Hope Floats Soundtrack, the ballad "Chances Are" features the unmistakable Bob Seger with Martina McBride. The duet charted on the Adult Contemporary Chart in 1998, but wasn't the album's crown jewel. That gem belonged to Garth Brooks who remade Bob Dylan's "To Make You Feel My Love". The remake finished first on the Country Chart during the summer of 1998 and earned Brooks a Grammy nomination in 1999. Other big names on the soundtrack include The Rolling Stones, Lyle Lovett, Trisha Yearwood, and Sheryl Crow.

Hall & Oates "She's Gone"

What happens when your girlfriend stands you up on New Year's Eve? You arrive at the lyrics to "She's Gone". It happened to John Oates, and the New Year's Eve-that-never-was turned heartache into one of the duo's favorite songs. Originally released in 1973, the ballad received next to no attention outside the duo's hometown of Philadelphia. Upon re-release in 1976 (after the success of "Sara Smile"), the song went to #7 on the Hot 100 and #6 on the Adult Contemporary Charts.
