Madonna "Ray of Light"

"If you want to succeed in life, you need to constantly reinvent yourself," said the guest speaker in one of my college courses. Those wise words from this man (who at the time worked for the upstart WB Network) continue to remain relevant as I celebrate my 20 year college reunion. Credit to Madonna for artistically reinventing herself with every passing album. Even today, at 60 years of age, Madonna will embark on her Madame X Tour in support of her 14th studio album.

Evan & Jaron "Crazy for This Girl"

The secret to getting your song on the radio in 2000? First, make sure your song aired on an episode of The WB's Dawson Creek. Then, make sure two handsome twin brothers (such as Evan & Jaron) perform the song. The duo turned their simple ballad "Crazy for This Girl" into a hit thanks to some help from Dawson, Pacey and Joey. (Editor's note: The cast of Dawson's Creek reunited this week for an Entertainment Weekly issue celebrating the show's 20th anniversary and the cast pondered the thought of a reboot a la Roseanne.)

Paula Cole "I Don't Want to Wait"

Despite serving as the theme song for The WB's teen drama Dawson Creek, Paula Cole's "I Don't Want to Wait" managed to set a record for most consecutive weeks on the Top 50 without cracking the Top 10. The song also managed to set another record: it's one of 32 songs in history to remain on the charts for 50 weeks ("I Don't Want to Wait" charted for 56 weeks). 

Dido "Here With Me"

Dido's "Here With Me" got a nice push from The WB television network when their sci-fi drama Roswell used "Here With Me" for its theme song. The network also used Gavin DeGraw's "I Don't Wanna Be" and Paula Cole's "I Don't Wanna Wait" as theme songs to their other network shows. The popularity of Dido's follow up single, "Thank You", also helped boost airplay for "Here With Me" which was released before "Thank You". If anyone still didn't know who the heck Dido was, Eminem helped make her a household name with his song "Stan".

Edwin McCain - "I'll Be"

Paula Cole's "I Don't Wanna Wait" isn't the only song to trigger flashbacks of Dawson's Creek.  Edwin McCain's "I'll Be" also featured prominently in Season 1 of the former-WB's first breakout hit drama.

Heather Nova - "London Rain (Nothing Heals Me Like You Do)"

The late-WB Network devoted a few seconds at the end of each episode to name the titles and artists of music featured in the episode.  It was a nice cross-promotional vehicle that helped introduce new music to the network's young audience.  Episodes of Dawson's Creek and Felicity featured music from pop singer Heather Nova.  Her 1998 hit "London Rain (Nothing Heals Me Like You Do)" was one example of a song the television show helped put on the radio.

Billie Myers - "Kiss the Rain"

From the One-Hit Wonder File comes Billie Myers with "Kiss The Rain". Her one hit found an audience thanks to the WB's "Dawson's Creek". The show used the ballad during an episode of the teen soap's second season.

Jewel - "Standing Still"

We all know that before Jewel hit it big, she lived in a van down by the river somewhere in Alaska.  After making it big, Jewel's music were typically found in episodes of teen television dramas.  "Dawson's Creek" used many of Jewel's songs including the 2001 hit "Standing Still".
