Tears for Fears album Songs from the Big Chair gets its name from the made-for-TV movie Sybil. The movie starred Sally Field as a suffer of multiple personality disorder and actually won her an Emmy Award.

Tears for Fears "Head Over Heels"

Having never seen an episode of Psych, I imagine it's a collection of people offering to shake hands with a stranger when -- fooled ya! -- the hand shaker ends up running his hand through his hair while yelling, "Psych!". Hilarity, right?!?

Stand by...I'm being told that's not at all what happened on the television show. Bummer. Well, never mind then. The crime series from USA Network once enlisted Curt Smith of Tears for Fears fame to do a cameo on an episode from season five.

By today's standards, how political is "Sowing the Seeds of Love"? The 1989 tune came in reaction to the British Conservative Party's Margaret Thatcher winning her third term as Prime Minister. 

Hall & Oates "Say It Isn't So"

Hall & Oates announced their 2018 summer tour includes the pop group Train. Some might find the bill to be an odd pairing (especially after they paired up last year with Tears for Fears). Apparently, Train's lead singer Pat Monahan bonded with Daryl Hall during a taping of  Live From Daryl's House and the rest is history. Their tour begins May 1st in Sacramento.

Tears for Fears "Everybody Wants to Rule the World"

It's another case of "Lowered Expectations": as the guys behind Tears for Fears put the finishing touches on their Songs From the Big Chair album, they opted to cut a song from the album they felt wasn't all that good.  They decided to replace it with "Everybody Wants to Rule the World".  Despite being an after-thought, the song proved to be the English band's biggest hit and one of the biggest hits of the decade.

Duran Duran - "Ordinary World"

If you turned on the radio during the summer of 1993, you might think it was still 1983 as both Duran Duran and Tears for Fears had new music on the radio.  For Duran Duran, "Ordinary World" was the former super group's comeback anthem.  The ballad found success on Top 40, Adult Contemporary, and Rock radio stations.

Tears for Fears - "Break It Down Again"

Maybe I should come up with a song about money or taxes for Tax Day--April 15th.  Nah, how about I just pick a damn good song?  Tears for Fears put out a damn good song called "Break It Down Again" that doesn't get the airplay today that it deserves.  (Bonus points to them for incorporating "like Moses on a motorbike" in the lyrics.)
