Backstreet Boys "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)"

Some fun facts about the Backstreet Boys first big hit:

• The song went to #2 on the Hot 100 in 1997 (blocked by "Mo Money, Mo Problems" from The Notorious B.I.G. and later Mariah Carey's "Honey") 
• The song also went to #2 on the Adult Contemporary Chart
• BSB record company originally wanted to release "You Want it to Be Good Girl (Get Yourself A Bad Boy)" instead of "Quit Playing Games", but the boys argued against it saying that particular song was their worst
• The original version of the song was recorded in 1995 and only featured Brian Littrell singing both verses -- Nick Carter was later added
• An Italian version of the song was also recorded but only featured Kevin Richardson and Howie Dorough 

Marc Anthony "My Baby You"

Marc Anthony was red hot in 2000 thanks to the success of his self-entitled album. The album was Marc's first album of English songs and contained hits like "You Sang to Me" and "I Need to Know". "My Baby You" was the album's fourth single.

Peter Cetera "One Good Woman"

Peter Cetera co-wrote and sang the ballad "One Good Woman" for inclusion on the soundtrack to the movie Big.  That never happened thanks to those meddling kids over at 20th Century Fox.  They apparently asked for one too many changes which ticked off the mercurial Cetera.  Cetera withdrew "One Good Woman" from consideration for Big and instead used it as his lead single from his One More Story album.

Culture Club "It's A Miracle"

With a funky beat, "It's A Miracle" from Culture Club quickly became yet another hit from Culture Club.  The song was the group's fifth single from their Colour By Numbers album.

*N-Sync "(God Must've Spent) A Little More Time on You"

If you went out and bought the CD single to *N-Sync's "(God Must've Spent) A Little More Time on You", you also received quite a smooth little treat: the single's B-side was a live cover of "Sailing" from Christopher Cross.

Brian McKnight - "Anytime"

One of 1998's most played songs on the radio wasn't even released as a single.  That song was "Anytime" from Brian McKnight".  Because it was never officially released as a single, the song was ineligible to chart.  Whoops.

Amy Grant - "I Will Remember You"

Most successful albums produce three or four commercial hit singles.  In Amy Grant's case, Heart in Motion, her first mainstream album, produced seven singles.  The seventh and final single from Heart in Motion was the ballad "I Will Remember You".  While the song was the first of the seven not to crack the Top 10 of the Hot 100, it was a major success on the Adult Contemporary Chart (#2).

Expose - "Come Go With Me"

How often does the entire lineup of a band turn over and success follows?  It happened with Expose in 1986.  The original three members of the trio exited the band and were replaced with three new members who re-recorded the vocals of "Point of No Return" and "Exposed to Love" (hits for the band in 1985).  Their debut album also produced a third single, "Come Go With Me", which became a Top 10 hit in 1987.

Smash Mouth - "Walkin' on the Sun"

Before downloading MP3s through iTunes, you would drive over to your local record store and purchase CDs.  In case you just wanted to buy one song instead of the full album, you'd buy a single.  Despite its name, singles contained more than one song.  Much like records, singles had a B-side.  In the case of Smash Mouth's "Walkin' on the Sun", the B-side was a song called "Sorry About Your Penis".
