Erasure "Chains of Love"

We all fell for the scam CD club from Columbia House or BMG in the 90s where you got 12 CDs for the low low price of one penny (plus $3 trillion for shipping & handling).  Other than the exorbitant shipping fees, it sometimes was difficult to choose 12 CDs because their selection was limited and somewhat dated.  I feel like many of us purchased Pop! The First 20 Hits from Erasure because we couldn't think of a twelfth CD.  The group's synth-pop "Chains of Love" was a hit in 1988.

Pet Shop Boys "What Have I Done to Deserve This?"

Credit the Pet Shop Boys for revitalizing Dusty Springfield's career in 1987.  The synth-pop duo added Dusty's vocals to "What Have I Done to Deserve This?" resulting in a worldwide smash hit -- and the first time Springfield's name was back on the charts since the 1970s.  This also rekindled interest in Springfield's older music and introduced legions of new fans to her.  In 1990, the Pet Shop Boys continued to promote Dusty by writing two additional songs for Springfield's Reputation album.
